Ifesinachi Nelson Ezeh, a 26-year-old Nigerian, has etched his name in history by setting an unprecedented academic record in Russia. Graduating from Saint Petersburg State Agrarian University with a Master’s degree in Agronomy, Ifesinachi accomplished a remarkable Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 5.0—the highest ever recorded in Russia.

Hailing from Nsukka, Enugu State, Ifesinachi’s academic journey commenced in 2008 when he embraced a scholarship opportunity, opting for studies in Russia over admission to the Nigerian College of Aviation Studies.

His commitment to outstanding research and academic brilliance garnered acclaim from Russia’s Ministry of Agriculture and the university’s leadership, earning him praise during his graduation ceremony. His saga of success began with a newspaper article outlining a scholarship scheme, which his father encouraged him to pursue. This opportunity, stemming from a bilateral agreement between Nigeria and several countries, including Russia, became the launchpad for his academic eminence.

Upon arriving in Russia, Ifesinachi initially immersed himself in learning the Russian language at Don State Technical University before transitioning to Saint Petersburg State Agrarian University to pursue his passion for Agronomy. Guided by Prof Lev Gennadievich Tyryshkin, his thesis supervisor, Ifesinachi embarked on a journey steeped in academic and industrial research methodologies.

Post his Master’s degree, Ifesinachi returned to Nigeria, dedicating himself to the National Youth Service, deferring his doctoral program. This choice reflects his commitment to leveraging the knowledge gained abroad to contribute significantly to Nigeria’s agricultural development. He aims to combat food crises through innovative plant breeding, showcasing a fervent desire to impact his homeland positively.
