In a remarkable achievement for the second consecutive year, UT co-programme leader Willem Vos from the Faculty of Science and Technology (TNW) has secured a significant Perspectief programme, reaffirming his leadership in driving groundbreaking technological innovations. The new initiative, named AWAVE (Advanced Wave Engineering for Sustainable Optical Applications), is set to revolutionize high-tech devices through the development of flat optics, allowing for more efficient and sustainable technological solutions.

The AWAVE project focuses on advancing flat optical components to enhance the efficiency of various technological applications. These innovations aim to transform chip production lithography machines, lamps, and inkjet printers by utilizing fewer parts, reducing energy consumption, and enhancing performance. By replacing large and curved optical components with flat alternatives, the researchers aim to minimize light distortion, making the components easier to recycle and reducing the use of harmful substances. Additionally, these flat optics will emit a broader spectrum of colors simultaneously, resulting in sharper images and unlocking new applications.
