In a groundbreaking thesis project, Tanner Boro, a recent graduate from Arizona State University’s College of Health Solutions, explored the effectiveness of a new high-electrolyte sports drink against commercially available counterparts.
Graduating with a master’s degree in nutrition science, Boro focused on a unique approach to sports hydration. The ongoing data collection phase involves testing the water-based high-electrolyte sports drink on 10 subjects to compare results with other established sports drinks.
Boro’s academic journey began with a bachelor’s degree in exercise science from Northern Arizona University. Initially aspiring to be a physical trainer, his interest pivoted towards sports nutrition after taking a class in the field. He added a nutrition minor during his senior year and found his true passion.
Sharing insights into his ASU experience, Boro emphasized the eye-opening experience of interacting with participants during his thesis project’s data collection. Engaging with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures broadened his perspective.
Boro was recently accepted into Wellness Workday’s Dietetic Internship, where he will be doing rotations in Austin, Texas, including working with the University of Texas at Austin’s athletics programs.
If given $40 million to solve a problem on our planet, he would focus on increasing access to clean water globally, believing it would help resolve many public health issues.
