Professor John Gatsi, the Dean of the School of Business at UCC, delivered this crucial advice during a seminar organized by the Directorate of Finance Welfare Association (DoFWA) as part of its 30th-anniversary celebration.

Emphasizing the significance of professional ethics, Prof. Gatsi urged finance officers to uphold principles such as honesty, integrity, transparency, confidentiality, and trustworthiness in the execution of their duties. During the seminar, Prof. Gatsi directed finance officers’ attention to the boundary documents of the University, including the Procurement Act and Processes, the Public Financial Management Act, and the Financial and Stores Regulations. He underscored the importance of following the provisions outlined in these documents to maintain ethical standards in financial management.

Addressing potential professional misconduct, Prof. Gatsi listed examples such as disclosing confidential information without consent, gross negligence of professional duty, refusing to provide timely records and reports, and offering incorrect advice. Given the sensitive nature of their work, Prof. Gatsi suggested the formulation of a gift policy by the Directorate to guide staff, as gifts received could potentially compromise professionalism.

In addition to Prof. Gatsi’s insights, Dr. James Kojo Prah, the Director of University Health Services, spoke on the topic “Liver-Kidney Cross Talk.” Dr. Prah advocated for a reduction in alcohol consumption to prevent kidney and liver problems, addressing the rising prevalence of diseases like Hepatitis B Viral, liver cancer, cirrhosis, and fatty liver disease in the country.
