The University of Cape Coast (UCC) Printing Press demonstrated its commitment to community development by donating exercise books, pens, pencils, rulers, and other educational materials valued at thousands of cedis to Apewosika Basic School. The generous gesture, aimed at supporting parents’ efforts in meeting their children’s academic needs, took place at the school premises.
Mrs. Mary Quainoo Boadi-Kusi, the manager of the University Printing Press, led the donation and emphasized the institution’s dedication to social responsibility. Mrs. Boadi-Kusi encouraged the pupils to take their education seriously and utilize the provided materials effectively to enhance the teaching and learning experience.
Mrs. Alberta Yaa Graham, the Director of the Directorate of Consular and General Services at UCC, highlighted that the donation aligns with UCC’s longstanding policy to engage with and support communities within its catchment area. Over the years, the University has consistently assisted schools in various ways to contribute to the improvement of teaching and learning.
The Headmistress of Apewosika Basic School, Mrs. Elizabeth Brew-Wartengberg, expressed gratitude to the University Press for the significant donation. She acknowledged that the lack of basic educational materials is a barrier preventing some students from attending school regularly. Mrs. Brew-Wartengberg expressed optimism that the provided books and materials would positively impact learning in the school, emphasizing that the support came at an opportune time.
Highlighting the school’s ongoing needs, the Headmistress appealed to other corporate organizations to follow the example set by the University Press and extend similar support to Apewosika Basic School. The collaboration between educational institutions and corporate entities plays a crucial role in fostering community development and ensuring access to quality education for all.
