University of Western Australia Joins Forces for Student Exchange and Research Collaboration

Breaking new ground in international collaboration, the Medical University of Graz solidifies its commitment to global education and research with a recently inked cooperation agreement with the prestigious University of Western Australia (UWA) in Perth. This partnership marks a significant milestone, expanding the portfolio of English-speaking cooperation partners and laying the foundation for enriched student exchange programs and potential collaborative research endeavors.

The agreement, finalized at the end of November, opens avenues for the exchange of students for internships and clinical training components (KPJ) while setting the stage for possible joint research initiatives. UWA, established in 1913 and situated in Perth, boasts a student body of over 25,000, including international students from more than 100 countries. The university holds a distinguished position as a member of the Group of Eight (Go8), an alliance of Australia’s premier research-intensive institutions. Notably, its Medical School is renowned for delivering outstanding clinical teaching.

“We are delighted to welcome the University of Western Australia into our network of esteemed partners. This collaboration not only broadens the academic horizons for our students but also paves the way for potential research synergies between our institutions.

The University Clinic for Orthopedics and Traumatology at Med Uni Graz is set to host the first UWA student for an internship in December, marking the beginning of a fruitful exchange between the two institutions.

Opportunities for Med Uni Graz students to embark on educational journeys Down Under will be announced as part of the “Clinical Rotations and Research Abroad” mobility program. These experiences, ranging from four to eight-week internships during the 5th year of study to KPJ internships at UWA-affiliated teaching hospitals, including the Royal Perth Hospital, Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, Fiona Stanley Hospital, and Perth Children’s Hospital, will be made possible with the support of Med Uni Graz funding.

This collaboration with the University of Western Australia fortifies Med Uni Graz’s commitment to fostering a globally engaged academic community, fostering cultural exchange, and advancing collaborative research initiatives.
