Doha, Qatar — Dr. Ahmed Abdel-Wahab, interim chair of the Chemical Engineering Program at Texas A&M University at Qatar, took center stage at the recent “Meet the Expert” session organized by Qatar Science and Technology Park (QSTP), in collaboration with ConocoPhillips Global Water Sustainability Center (GWSC). The event, held under the auspices of Qatar Foundation, addressed crucial strategies and advanced solutions for sustainable water management in the oil and gas industry.

The session brought together industry leaders and academic experts to explore innovative approaches and best practices in handling wastewater generated during oil and gas operations. Dr. Abdel-Wahab’s presentation focused on effective and sustainable wastewater management, emphasizing the importance of collaborative efforts to address the pressing challenges in Qatar’s water sustainability landscape.

Dr. Samer Adham, GWSC manager, highlighted the significance of cost-effective water management within the oil and gas sector, underscoring the GWSC’s commitment to advancing research, technology deployment, and pilot testing. The collaboration between GWSC and local institutes aims to develop a toolbox of advanced technologies tailored for specific applications, contributing to Qatar’s water conservation and sustainability objectives.

The panel of experts included Farhan Khan, Environmental Regulatory Compliance Lead at Qatar Energy – LNG; Dr. Mohamed Hassan from the Centre for Advanced Materials at Qatar University; and Dr. Mustafa Saleh Nasser from the Gas Processing Centre at Qatar University. Each panelist shared valuable insights from their respective projects, providing a comprehensive overview of the advancements and challenges in sustainable water management.
