In a landmark opportunity for aspiring journalists in Southern Africa, the International Journalists’ Programmes (IJP) is proud to announce the commencement of the Southern African Journalists’ Bursary Programme 2024 in Germany, offering a generous 3,000 Euro stipend to successful applicants.
Deadline for Applications: March 1st, 2024
The IJP is extending a unique bursary opportunity to up to six young journalists from Southern African Development Community (SADC) member states, including Angola, Botswana, Democratic Republic of Congo, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland, United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Kenya. Additionally, up to five young German journalists will also have the chance to participate.
This transformative program spans two months, during which Southern African delegates will immerse themselves in the vibrant journalistic landscape of Germany. As part of their experience, participants will be seamlessly integrated into the day-to-day operations of their host newsroom, providing hands-on exposure to the inner workings of international journalism. Simultaneously, they will engage in research and story development for their home media, enriching cross-cultural perspectives in journalism.
For those passionate about journalism and eager to broaden their horizons, this bursary is a gateway to professional growth and cross-cultural exchange. The 3,000 Euro stipend serves as both financial support and recognition of the value these journalists bring to the field.
